11&#215;14 oil <\/p>\n<p>Speaking of his purchases brought to light stories of other great art patrons.<\/p>\n<p>The Guardian\u2019s Rachel Cook writes \u201cImpressionism owes much of its global success to the efforts of Paul Durand-Ruel, the dealer who discovered Degas, Monet, Pissarro and Renoir, buying their work at a time when it was ridiculed by the art establishment.<br \/>\n \u201cWithout him,\u201d said Monet, \u201cwe wouldn\u2019t have survived.\u201d<br \/>\n(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/culture\/2015\/feb\/27\/the-10-best-art-patrons\">The 10 best Art Patrons- Feb 2015<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>In the early 60\u2019s my father recalls <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allensapp.com\">Allen Sapp<\/a> paintings propped on the local hardware shelves for 10$ each.<br \/>\nDuring the short time we lived in North Battleford, Sapp\u2019s career blossomed.<br \/>\nA large credit to his success was due to the patronage of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.allensapp.com\/about\/the_life_and_art_of_allen_sapp.html\">Dr. Allan Gonor<\/a>, whom he met in 1966.<br \/>\nIf it had not been for Dr. Gonor\u2019s continued support by purchasing, and introducing his art to buyers, I doubt the incredible collection of Sapp\u2019s work would exist today.<\/p>\n<p> Another known physician encouraged a young artist by the name of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tom_Thomson\">Tom Thomson<\/a>.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/tomthomsonart.com\/letters\/dr-james-maccallum-art-patron-canadian-magazine-march-1918\">Dr. James MacCallum<\/a> was a great patron and friend of the Group of Seven,<br \/>\n\u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/pmc\/articles\/PMC1335089\/\">he encouraged some of the most recognizable and evocative art ever painted in this country.<\/a>\u201d<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/mountain-lake.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/mountain-lake-300x253.jpg\" alt=\"mountain lake\" width=\"300\" height=\"253\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3746\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nNew &#8220;Mountain Lake&#8221; 20&#215;24 Original oil<\/p>\n<p>One doesn\u2019t have to be wealthy or an educated art advisor to gather a collection worth a fortune.<br \/>\nThe fascinating story about <a href=\"http:\/\/mentalfloss.com\/article\/48844\/how-working-class-couple-amassed-priceless-art-collection\">Dorothy and Herb Vogel<\/a><br \/>\nhas circulated around the globe.<br \/>\nDorothy, a librarian, and her late husband Herb, a mail sorter for US Post, amassed one of the largest private collections of art.<br \/>\nTheir collection inspired <a href=\"http:\/\/canadianart.ca\/features\/dorothy-vogel\/\">two documentary films<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>These patrons supported artists early in their careers, for many it became pivotal in their success.<br \/>\nThe collectors may have even helped establish value in their <em>own<\/em> collections.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC02934.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC02934-288x300.jpg\" alt=\"DSC02934\" width=\"288\" height=\"300\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3753\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nNew in progress 4ftx2ft -playing with one of my fav.scenes in the boreal<\/p>\n<p>Personally, selling art isn\u2019t just about being able to buy more art supplies, pay bills and continue painting.<br \/>\nHaving patrons believe in the work, welcome it into their spaces, and love it, fuels the process of art in a brilliant way.<br \/>\nPatrons understand art will <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/how-to-live-with-art-creatively\/\">enrich their lives<\/a>, what they may not realize, they have enriched the artists work.<\/p>\n<p>This supportive energy encourages the artist to excel.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s about the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/happiness-pursuit\/\">positive vibes<\/a>.<br \/>\nOr as Emeril Lagasse says \u201cadding the ingredient of love.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When I asked my friend what encouraged him to spontaneously buy the entire exhibit, his expression softened.<br \/>\nWith a widening smile he replied \u201chow could I not? they were all so beautiful\u201d.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cMost of the artists we collected were unknowns when we collected them. It was very nice when some did become known\u2014we were happy for them.
