G. Ravin.<br \/>\nHe uses software to replicate what the artist may have seen.<br \/>\nFor a glimpse, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.livescience.com\/1512-blurry-world-claude-monet-recreated.html\">click here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At the age of three my parents discovered I wasn\u2019t seeing well.<br \/>\nAn optometrist confirmed their suspicion of nearsightedness.<br \/>\nHe believed a child under school age shouldn\u2019t wear glasses, suggesting we return in a couple of years.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Scan-1.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-3659\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Scan-1.jpeg\" alt=\"Scan 1\" width=\"251\" height=\"253\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Scan-1.jpeg 251w, http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Scan-1-150x150.jpeg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 251px) 100vw, 251px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nWith my Dad, brother &amp; faithful friend Tuff<\/p>\n<p>I will never forget the day, years later, when I first donned my personally chosen bright purple frames.<br \/>\nDriving home, my face pressed to the window I exclaimed,<br \/>\n\u201cMOM the trees have leaves, they have LEAVES!!\u201d<br \/>\nI remember those trembling aspens and birch, leaves shimmering in the wind, bright as pennies in the sun.<br \/>\nI was ecstatic. Mom was crying.<br \/>\nShe was reeling over the fact I hadn\u2019t ever seen leaves in a forest grove.<\/p>\n<p>By 16 the optometrist could no longer find frames to fit me, or make glasses thick enough.<br \/>\nContacts changed my view yet again.<br \/>\nThe world was suddenly sharper &amp; clear, but depth perception was difficult to navigate.<br \/>\nI stumbled a lot.<\/p>\n<p>The \u2018reading glass\u2019 era arrived 5 years ago.<br \/>\nI should paint with them, but don\u2019t.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/dawn-brush.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3663\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/dawn-brush-250x300.jpg\" alt=\"dawn brush\" width=\"250\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/dawn-brush-250x300.jpg 250w, http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/dawn-brush-852x1024.jpg 852w, http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/dawn-brush.jpg 961w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 250px) 100vw, 250px\" \/><\/a><br \/>\nThou I couldn\u2019t discount my friend\u2019s enthusiasm that presbyopia was \u2018a gift from heaven\u2019,<br \/>\nbecause she could no longer see her wrinkles,<br \/>\nit still has it\u2019s share of challenges.<\/p>\n<p>I was in the studio when my Client showed me the photo for this special commission.<br \/>\nI saw lovely natural buff cliffs and a meandering river.<br \/>\nAfter he left I found my glasses and discovered the cliffs were houses.<br \/>\nA whole village.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC02701.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3666\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC02701-300x297.jpg\" alt=\"DSC02701\" width=\"300\" height=\"297\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC02701-300x297.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC02701-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC02701-1024x1013.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC02701-303x300.jpg 303w, http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC02701.jpg 1417w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>It was a surprise, and a challenge.<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC027051.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-3665\" src=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC027051-217x300.jpg\" alt=\"DSC02705\" width=\"217\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC027051-217x300.jpg 217w, http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC027051-739x1024.jpg 739w, http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/DSC027051.jpg 1701w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 217px) 100vw, 217px\" \/><\/a> 24&#215;24 New oil on canvas.<\/p>\n<p>The painting took about three weeks &amp; 23 brushes.<br \/>\nI began in acrylic, layered with oil.<br \/>\n~introduced two new colours \u2013 viridian and phthalo green<br \/>\n~incorporated a canyon palette \u2013 destination of the couple\u2019s engagement photos.<br \/>\n~ used two entire palettes of paint.<br \/>\nThere is a little surprise in one of the towers.<\/p>\n<p>I wore my reading glasses.<\/p>\n<p>p.s.<br \/>\nWere Artists better painters because of decline in vision?<br \/>\nI believe scientists are missing the point.<br \/>\nThese well accomplished artists had honed their skills &amp; perceptions.<br \/>\nMasters who understood light, composition, movement and contrast.<br \/>\nThey weren\u2019t just \u2018seeing\u2019 their subjects, they understood them on a whole different plane~<br \/>\none that infuses mystery and the unseen.<br \/>\nDr. Marmor reproduces what Monet was seeing on canvas with poor vision.<br \/>\nWhat was he seeing beyond the canvas?<br \/>\n~<br \/>\nAnticipating the letters of response~<br \/>\nI rarely accept commissions.<br \/>\nIt\u2019s true this isn\u2019t my typical genre.<br \/>\nHe isn\u2019t my typical client either.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monet had cataracts.
