{"id":2711,"date":"2014-09-03T17:23:08","date_gmt":"2014-09-03T21:23:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/?p=2711"},"modified":"2015-06-14T10:09:20","modified_gmt":"2015-06-14T14:09:20","slug":"nature","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.dawnbanning.com\/newsblog\/nature\/","title":{"rendered":"Effects of Nature Imagery"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cLose yourself in Nature and find peace\u201d the caption read on a poster in my room when I was young.<br \/>\nThe photo exhibited a fawn, illuminated in sunlight, surrounded by lush dense forest.<\/p>\n<p>We had recently moved to town from the wilderness of the park.<br \/>\nI kept the poster above my bed reminded me of the home where I would run free outside our door into secluded lakeside forest.<\/p>\n<p>In her recent <a href=\"http:\/\/podbay.fm\/show\/523121474\/e\/1408544928?autostart=1\">Ted NPR<\/a>, Tierney Thys states a startling fact.<br \/>\nThe average American spends 90% of their time indoors.  <\/p>\n<p>As of 2010 humans have become an urban species, separated from the landscapes and seascapes we have evolved from, she insists.<\/p>\n<p>Thys mentions desire to exercise our brain, increase focus &#038; concentration, speed healing, release stress, increase energy, inspire creativity- what delivers all these and more?<br \/>\nSurround ourselves with nature, she says.<br \/>\nWhat\u2019s really exciting about recent studies, if people are unable to venture outdoors, just imagery of nature can have a powerful effect.<\/p>\n<p>Thys quotes a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.healthcaredesignmagazine.com\/article\/conversation-roger-ulrich?page=\">study<\/a> by Roger Ulrich in hospital patients, with rooms viewing trees required less pain med\u2019s and healed quicker.<\/p>\n<p>Could nature imagery help defray that growing deficeit and if so, how, she queries.<br \/>\nWhich habitats calm us, or inspire us? It\u2019s just nice to have science spreading the news.<\/p>\n<p>~ on a side note<br \/>\nCustomers have placed paintings in a nursery to calm a baby, in offices to inspire creativity, above dining tables and in gyms, family gathering living rooms, or, interestingly, at a lakeside cottages.<\/p>\n<p>The paintings I did for my Mom\u2019s bedside in hospital she delighted in, calling them &#8216;healing paintings&#8217;. It wasn\u2019t a surprise she felt this way, she had an amazing connection to the work.<br \/>\nThe surprise for me, was the effect the art had on the hospital staff.
