I have been working on one of the most challenging paintings I have ever attempted. Physically & mentally this four foot canvas has been exhausting, and exhilerating.

As I approach completion in a couple of days, I thought to share a glimpse of my inspiration. Some Canadians viewing this photo of my brother’s, will immediately think ’Lawren Harris’. I did too. At first, I thought my interpretation would be a testament to a great painter. But only Mr. Harris could really do this. So it will be in the true spirit of the Dawn Banning you all know. This is a rare glimpse to see what really transpires from a scene to canvas.

The photo has sat in my ‘ to do box’ for several years, it has beckoned me, and terrified me at the same time. These mountains have the perfect balance in every way of what pulls me to nature. Their symmetry of masculine & feminine, (the graphic  dark bold lines, and yet butterfly crevice shapes with petticoat snow drifts).

The development of this piece has been a labour of love, a connection I have felt deeper perhaps, than most pieces I have ever done.  Elements of balance, and a bold testament to my passion for heaven on earth. Stay tuned for the unveiling of “Mountain”.
