Announcing Village Chiropractic in Orangeville, Ontario has added a fourth painting to their corporate collection with the commission 'Illumination'. It has been my pleasure to work with Dr. Kim Gillies and Dr. Heather Pady on the project and be present for the installation of 'Illumination'.
This was a unique project for me, having visited the space, and seeing detailed photos of lighting, wall & room colours. The request was for a forested trail with sunlight coming from behind, and to feel like you are walking down your own trail every time you walk down the hall with birch and trilliums if possible. I kept in mind the patients arriving to the venue are present for treatment and healing.
It took me 6 days to come up with a design concept. The location in the clinic for the piece was specific. It was important to create the painting to have 'flow' with that in mind. I used 6 different photos for the painting. I wanted to create very unique light patterns and a healing warmth feeling, so this was one of the biggest challenges. There are 7 layers of paint to create the special sunlight- I had to dry each layer before additional layers.
There are 4 strong trees on each side of the path, these represent each of the Dr's family members. The patterns of a strong birch would be a distraction in this kind of sunlit piece, so I chose to soften it. The trilliums requested are nestled in the moss, understated and quiet. All to give a sense of peace & tranquility. There are undertones of reds/ siennas to give a hint of power and energy, creating a perfect balance of comfort and revival.
